On the 95th anniversary of the creation of the association of magistrates, the president of the Court reiterated the value of judicial independence, after having suspended last week the elections in Tucumán and San Juan.

The president of the Court Horacio Rosatti and his predecessor in that position, Ricardo Lorenzetti appeared together on Monday, after months of estrangement, in the framework of the celebrations for the 95th anniversary of the Association of Magistrates and Officials of the National Justice.

Lorenzetti returned to Argentina on Thursday after a tour of Europe to participate in congresses on the environment and meet with Pope Francis so he did not vote for the precautionary measure that suspended the elections in Tucumán and San Juan.

However, since 2013 Lorenzetti in the case of Santiago del Estero and others has voted for a restrictive interpretation of re-elections. In addition, he had a struggle with his colleagues over allegations of alleged irregularities in the judicial social work.

At tomorrow's meeting of agreements, the full Court would annul the precautionary measure for Tucumán because the governor and candidate for vice governor Juan Manzur renounced to seek a fifth re-election in the binomial of the local executive.

The event, held at the headquarters of the entity, was also attended by the vice president of the Court, Carlos Rosenkrantz; the dean minister, Juan Carlos Maqueda, the president of the Association, Marcelo Gallo Tagle; members of the Council of the Magistracy and more than 200 officials.

The Union of Employees of the National Justice accompanied the celebration with the adhesion of its Secretary General, Julio Piumato, and Maia Volcovinsky, Mara Fernandez and Hugo Leguizamón were present on behalf of the union.

"From the Court we are very happy to participate in this celebration. A celebration that finds us with a united Judiciary, a Judiciary that knows itself to be independent; a firm judiciary, which is what society demands, what our community demands in the context of the republican form of government and the division of powers," Rosatti said.

"The independence of the judiciary is a fundamental element for the health of any republic, and this is what we want to offer society because this is what society demands of us," he added.

From the Supreme Court, he said, "we will always support the judges, the officials, the employees of the Judicial Branch who fulfill their task. To the good and good officials, who are the vast majority."

"How do you recognize a judge who fulfills his or her function?" asked Rosatti.

"Simply, when you apply the Constitution and the laws without looking at who can be benefited or harmed. In every judicial process there is someone who is given the reason and another who is not. The important thing is, above the reasons, motives and arguments of the parties, to situate the logic, the argumentation, the letter of the law and, fundamentally, of the Constitution. Those are the judges that the republic demands."
