The Big Bang of the Universe

On his Facebook, Adrián Iaies defined his impressions of Spinetta's music and his work on the album.

"Artaud is the big bang of the Spinetta Universe. In that initial explosion there was already a good part of the elements that would later make up the Spinetta aesthetic. The last seven months of my life were gone on this trip that led me to know much more deeply an album that I had already heard thousands of times as a music lover and as a musician, "said Iaies.

He continued: "But this time it was more than that. Much more. It was immersing myself in El Flaco's music as much as necessary to be able to speak in the first person through it. I can't help but the happiness and excitement of presenting it at the Teatro Colón with a true selection of musicians and singers."

Iaies is one of the artists of the jazz scene who since his first works has sounded both tango and national rock as a source of research.

In 2002 he edited Las cosas tiene movimiento, by Fito Páez, with Horacio Fumero and Fernando Martínez; in 2010, at the Finnish Cinematheque, Rasguña las piedras, by Sui Generis, with Roxana Amed; in 2011, in When did the rain stop being sacred?, Cable to earth, also by Páez.

Spinetta, for example, has versions of Fermin, in a delicate interpretation with trumpeter Mariano Loiácono; The books of good memory, Laura goes and Staying or leaving, with Sol Liebeskind in singing. By Charly García, Winter Confessions, Friday 3 AM and Seminare, among others.

A musician with an open spirit, who draws on both tango and rock, two worlds of a strong identity that add additional strength to his own work.

Artaud, October 1973

Artaud is undoubtedly one of the great albums of Argentine rock. Pescado Rabioso's third album, was released in October 1973 and although the album is credited to the band, it was composed and recorded by Spinetta as a soloist, with the collaboration of his brother Gustavo Spinetta (on drums) and Rodolfo García (also drummer of Almendra) and Emilio Del Guercio.

Artaud, the album by Spinetta signed by Pescado Rabioso. Already from its format it was rupturist.

Nine original songs recorded in an austere way, with a certain rawness where an acoustic atmosphere prevails.

The music of this album, fifty years later, not only continues to have a special freshness, it also has an emotional force that time has not made him lose. At that time, it meant a certain break with rock and the beginning of a career less conditioned by the record companies. An album that above all transmits freedom.

As Artaud's theme Cantata of Yellow Bridges says, from which the name of the tribute was taken: "Even if they force me, I will never say that all past time was better: tomorrow is better."

The cover is already a sign of rupture that continues to this day. It is not square like all of them, it was thought by Spinetta to have a shape of an irregular four-pointed octagon, green background and with a yellow spot in its lower left quadrant. The design was by Juan Gatti. On the front there is a small photo of the French poet Antonín Artaud as an old man and on the back cover, of Artaud as a young man.
