Highlights: The mayor of Guyancourt launches an appeal to elected officials in general, mayors in particular, as well as residents. "It is our duty as mayors to speak out against the far right," says François Morton. About 200 people showed up in front of the town hall of Saint-Cyr, carrying signs "Nazis out of our cities" or "No fachos in our neighborhoods" "This is not a crime of opinion: making racist or homophobic remarks is a crime," said the elected official.

The elected representatives of the municipal council of this city near Saint-Cyr-l'École, where an Aryan concert was held ten days ago, met this year.

Do not trivialize the discourse of the extreme right. After the recent events in Callac (Côtes-d'Armor), Saint-Brévin (Loire-Atlantique) and more recently the neo-Nazi parade in Paris, after which members met in a municipal hall in Saint-Cyr-l'École (Yvelines), the mayor of the nearby town of Guyancourt launches an appeal to elected officials in general, mayors in particular, as well as residents. A call that took the symbolic form of a rally this Tuesday evening, in front of the town hall.

"It is our duty as mayors to speak out against the far right," says François Morton (DVG), at the head of this city of 30,000 inhabitants. The mayor deplores a lack of position and "a timid word of the State, after phenomena yet very clear".

"Very clearly, I hope that other mayors will take a position," insists the mayor, who says he has exchanged with several of his counterparts in the agglomeration of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. For Tuesday's rally, he solicited the elected representatives of his city council – from all political sides – who unanimously supported the approach. "This is not a crime of opinion: making racist or homophobic remarks is a crime," said the elected official.

"All these stories re-examine me in my commitments"

"My concern does not concern Guyancourt so much but rather manifests itself at the local and national level," adds François Morton. If in this commune with a strong social mix the parties of the extreme right have indeed never broken through, he knows nothing of the presence of pockets of ultra-right in Versailles, distant only seven small kilometers. What the party organized in the Simone-Veil room in Saint-Cyr, during which bands played Aryan rock, recalled.

More generally, the mayor of Guyancourt hopes that other mobilizations like that of last Sunday will emerge in the coming days or weeks. About 200 people showed up in front of the town hall of Saint-Cyr, carrying signs "Nazis out of our cities" or "No fachos in our neighborhoods".

After the evening in the Simone-Veil room, the deputy (Nupes) William Martinet and the town hall (UDI) of Saint-Cyr also seized the prosecutor of the Republic of Versailles. "All these stories re-examine me in my commitments," says François Morton. The fight against the far right, which we know has caused painful things in our past, must never weaken. »
