Deadly shootings in the US again: A gunman opened fire on passersby in Farmington, New Mexico, on Tuesday, killing three people and wounding six others.
The local police chief, Steve Hebe, said the attacker, who was killed by police gunfire that arrived at the scene, managed to injure two officers, one moderately and the other only lightly. According to the police chief's description, the shooter was an 18-year-old man who arrived at the scene armed with three rifles.
The shooter opened fire at six houses, three vehicles, and several passersby in the street. The random shooting attack ended after several police officers arrived at the scene and engaged in a shootout with the gunman.
"The shooting seemed completely random. There were no schools, churches or individual targets. It looks like he just fired what he saw in front of him and went through his head," the police chief told CNN.
"It's hard to understand this incident, that something like this even happened here. But we are making every effort to piece together the evidence and testimonies and talk to the family of the shooter to understand what happened," Heba said.
