How telecom operators want to move the giants of the net to the cash register

Telecom operators are ready for battle. While the question of the contribution of telecoms infrastructures by the giants of the net is in full swing in Brussels, the latter are furnishing their weapons. They even have a fairly clear idea of how they intend to make these digital titans pay, according to a document consulted on Wednesday by Le Figaro.

As a reminder, Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton launched a consultation on this subject in mid-February, judging that the financial situation of the "telcos" made it difficult to make the massive investments necessary to cover the continent with very high speed fixed broadband and 5G for mobile. While the sector is looking for new sources of funding, all eyes are on Netflix, Google, Amazon or Meta, the main content providers (OTT). And for good reason, they now consume between 50% and up to 80% of the bandwidth at certain times of the day.
