A celebration with a special flair

2023-05-26T18:09:48.867Z

Highlights: Anyone who has ever witnessed an open day of the fire brigade knows what follows: A demonstration exercise - and what a show! After a few minutes, the kitchen is on fire, the grease explosion in the pan has done the rest. The last time Germering felt such a flair was in 2014, at the city's last folk festival. Those responsible have been working on the programme for several years, and the 150th anniversary celebration has now been implemented in joint group work, says press spokesman Christian Haugg.

After a few minutes, the kitchen is on fire, the grease explosion in the pan has done the rest, even if – for the "special effect" – some help was given by the fire brigade. After all, it's supposed to smoke properly and the flames shoot up.

Not only the children's eyes around suddenly become very big, but also the adults get warm pretty quickly. After all, the flames are pouring out a lot of heat. As with a real fire, a "resident" – in this case a volunteer from the audience – makes a call to the fire department. After the alarm was sounded, the firefighters set out to extinguish the kitchen fire. First of all, the front door must be kicked in in order to be able to get a first location of the apartment.

A celebration for everyone

A celebration for everyone

Impressed by the extinguishing process, the real fire brigade operation is almost lost. For a short time there is confusion as to whether this is now "part of the show", but the experienced men and women of the fire brigade react quickly and a vehicle can make its way through the show exercise. One thing the visitors become aware of with all the joy on these four days, a real emergency does not wait until the end of the celebration: always on duty and always ready - this is how the Germering fire brigade has been showing itself for 150 years now.

The great cohesion among the members is always particularly evident at such festivals: Everyone lends a hand, be it setting up and dismantling, selling cakes or giving presentations at the open day. Those responsible have been working on the programme for several years, and the 150th anniversary celebration has now been implemented in joint group work. Thus, the interim conclusion on Saturday was again expectedly positive, as press spokesman Christian Haugg explained.

Procession through Germering

In addition to a cabaret evening and the party band Ois Easy, a highlight followed on Sunday afternoon. Led by the Musikverein Eichenau, around 40 clubs marched through part of Germering from 14 p.m. onwards. Roads were closed and many onlookers gathered on the sidewalks. Waving the flag, the respective club members presented themselves from their best side. But not only pedestrians took part in the procession, also a few carriages and historic fire engines - each equipped with local politicians - paraded through the streets of Germering, always accompanied by music from a city or brass band. The last time Germering felt such a flair was in 2014, at the city's last folk festival.
