The Titan remained among the best two days before the legendary race, in which he will start 26th. Japan's Takuma Sato dominated.

Agustín Canapino took advantage of the last contact with the oval of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway before the mythical 500 Miles by finishing sixth in the Carb Day, which dominated the Japanese ex-Formula 1 Takuma Sato.

In the ninth of his 74 laps of final practice, the Arrecifeño recorded his best time (39.7295) at an average speed of 226.532 miles per hour and 0.2307 behind the two-time winner of the Indy 500.

After Sato, Scott Dixon, Will Power, Alex Palou – the poleman – and Kyle Kirkwood were placed. His Juncos Hollinger Racing teammate Callum Ilott, on the other hand, finished second to last in the best of his 66 laps.

Following his performance, Canapino raised praise, including that of the experienced Josef Newgarden, IndyCar champion in 2017 and 2019 and current runner-up.

"Canapino has been a big surprise all season. If he can win? I don't know, I think he will. He has all of Argentina with him," said the 32-year-old American.

Canapino, meanwhile, remained with his feet on the ground and said after training: "I do not think about going out to win or on a podium."

A session with some scares

The last two hours of activity before the race had some incidents and flags, including the black one shown to Ryan Hunter-Reay for a fluid leak from the gearbox of his car of Dreyer and Reinbold. "It's better that it happened today than on race day, but we lost an hour of practice," he lamented.

Katherine Legge, who was involved in a fearsome crash on Monday, caused a yellow when the nut on her left rear wheel came off her Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing just after the halfway point of the session.

Between the punctures, Herta suffered a huge blockage at the front right entering the pits that blew out his tire, while Devlin DeFrancesco had the right front of his Andretti blown up at Turn 2 and had to struggle to stay away from the wall. "I think it was just a cut tire, we were using an old set for pit stop practice. It definitely made my heart race!" she confessed.
