The day has already set this Thursday, May 18 when this visitor arrives at the parking lot of the Édouard Herriot hospital. She waits for long minutes in her car facing the barrier, but no one opens it. When she finally notifies the hospital, the head of security is also unable to reach the parking officer. He goes to his room, where he discovers the inanimate fifty-year-old. He proceeds to cardiac massage and warns the rescue. Emergency doctors and then the Samu take over, in vain. He was pronounced dead shortly before 22 p.m.

In office since 1999, the fifty-year-old was assigned to the supervision and management of the hospital car park. If the administration of the car park is delegated by the hospital to a private company, the agent was indeed an employee of the HCL (Hospices civils de Lyon), who sent their condolences to his family. He reportedly died of a heart attack. An autopsy is underway and an investigation has been opened to clarify the circumstances of the death, as is the case in a workplace death.

"Before, there were two of them on the post"

Management and unions met on Monday, May 22, said Chaïbia Khaif-Janssen, union delegate of the Autonomous Federation of Hospital Public Service (FAFPH), announcing that the labour inspectorate should be seized. "The victim was a lone worker, since a restructuring in 2014. Before they were two on the job, "says the unionist. She asked management to return to this situation, without success. The trade unionist insists on the absence of a medical examination since 2016 concerning the deceased employee.

For its part, the management of the Civil Hospice of Lyon, a group of which Édouard Herriot is a member, ensures that "all relief measures have been put in place". "The professional was equipped with a lone worker's protection device," she says. But he could not activate it. Chaïbia Jansen criticizes "an insufficient action plan following this death" and stresses the absence of a defibrillator in the room, even if the emergency services were able to use one, located nearby.
