Nearly 600 counterfeit luxury bags, with an estimated value of nearly 680,000 euros were seized by gendarmes at the end of May during a road check in Biarritz, the gendarmerie announced Friday. This seizure was made on May 31 after the control of a van arriving from Spain, on a toll of the A63 motorway in Biarritz, by gendarmes mobilized for an operation to fight against illicit tobacco trafficking, booming, said the gendarmerie in a statement.

In total, 589 bags, imitations of the brands Prada, Gucci, Chanel or Louis Vuitton were seized, for an estimated damage of 678,500 euros. A Spaniard who was in the van, "having bought the goods" will be summoned in November before the judicial court of Bayonne.
