Highlights: A roller coaster car derailed at an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden, police and sources said. A section of the front partially detached, the train stopped in the middle of the track and the car in question was tilted over the edge. The accident occurred at the "Jetline" attraction. Police evacuated the park, which will be closed for at least a week. The park opened 140 years ago and is located in Stockholm's Gröna Lund district, on the island of Gothenburg.

It happened at Stockholm's Gröna Lund amusement park. There are nine injured, including children.

One person was killed and nine injured on Sunday when a roller coaster car derailed at an amusement park in Stockholm, Sweden, police and sources told AFP.

"Unfortunately, one person died," said Cecilia Björling, spokeswoman for the Gröna Lund amusement park, which was evicted.

Park director Jan Eriksson told a news conference that nine people had been injured, including children, and were hospitalized. "It's a sad day," he said, noting that the park, which opened 140 years ago, will close for at least a week.

The accident occurred at the "Jetline" attraction. A section of the front partially detached, the train stopped in the middle of the track and the car in question was tilted over the edge. Fourteen people were on board.

An investigation has been opened, the park spokeswoman said.

"We received the alert around 11:39 local time (09:39 GMT), there was a derailment on a roller coaster," said Håkan Eriksson of the Swedish capital's emergency services. Police officers and an ambulance were sent to the scene.

The injured have injuries from the fall, Stockholm police spokeswoman Helena Boström Thomas told the hotel.

According to Jenny Lagerstedt, a correspondent for Swedish television SVT, who was at the scene, a carriage of the "Jetline" attraction would have unhooked and fell from very high, dragging several people in the fall.

"Suddenly, I heard a dull, metallic noise, and then the attractions started shaking," he told the Swedish broadcaster. "My husband, who was sitting outside, saw a wagon unhook [from the attraction] and fall."

The "Jetline" roller coaster was inaugurated in 1998 and its wagons circulate at a speed of about 90 km / h.
