Nuremberg - On Tuesday evening (July 18), there was an attack on police officers in front of Nuremberg's main train station, in which three police officers suffered cuts. The Nuremberg Criminal Investigation Department is investigating on suspicion of attempted manslaughter.

Around 18:25 p.m., a witness had dialed the emergency call and reported that a man was to harass passers-by near the tram island and also held a broken glass bottle in his hand. This was announced by the police in a press release on Wednesday.
A patrol of the Nuremberg-Mitte police station quickly arrived at the scene and spoke to the man (28). "Because he then suddenly approached the officers, they asked the man to stop and put down the bottle," the press release continues. But the man continued to run and stabbed several times with the broken glass bottle in the direction of the policemen. Only after more patrol crews arrived could the attacker be overwhelmed and tied up.

Three police officers injured in attack at Nuremberg's main train station - 23-year-old unfit for duty
In the attack or the overpowering of the man, three police officers suffered cuts. A 23-year-old police officer is not fit for duty for the time being.
"During the arrest by the police, several bystanders came to the scene and verbally attacked the officers. Because the people initially did not comply with a reprimand, other patrols – including those of the Federal Police – were called in, which finally enforced the expulsions. A man had to be taken into custody in this context," the police said in the press release.

The Nuremberg homicide squad has taken over the investigation against the 28-year-old man with Syrian citizenship. The public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth filed an application for arrest on suspicion of attempted manslaughter, and the man will be brought before an investigating judge in the course of the day.
During the crime, the attacker repeatedly uttered "Allahu akbar". In order to check whether the crime could possibly be brought into an Islamist context, the police initiated appropriate investigations into the 28-year-old's environment. "According to initial findings, the suspicion has not yet been confirmed," the officials clarified.
