Highlights: After decades during which light colors dominated here, in recent years the dark and dramatic shades have conquered every good plot in our homes. The person in charge of its planning and design is interior designer Michael Ohayon, who wisely created harmonious and experiential spaces for them. "The couple purchased the apartment directly to the contractor and we carried out the makeover as soon as we received Form 4 and the key," the designer recalls. "At the same time, the new design keeps the spaces tidy and organized at all times," he says.

Welcome to the new apartment of a couple in their 40s who aspire to create an elegant and meticulous living environment in pure dark colors. The person in charge of its planning and design is interior designer Michael Ohayon, who wisely created harmonious and experiential spaces for them, and is now sharing the process.

"The couple purchased the apartment directly to the contractor and we carried out the makeover as soon as we received Form 4 and the key," the designer recalls. "Originally it had 6 rooms, but to increase the master bedroom and public space, we gave up one of them. It was important for us to create a large and spacious public space, open on the one hand as much as possible, and on the other hand intimate and embracing – one that would not enter the door and be discovered at once but in stages, and indeed it was.

"At the same time, the new design keeps the spaces tidy and organized at all times. We have created an abundance of storage spaces for the parents and their three children, the most prominent of which is a carpentry unit that is about 10 meters long and extends over the public space. It serves the entrance, dining area and living room at the same time."

"The design is meticulous, high-tech and clean, and the monochromatic colors of pure gray and black, combined with measured camel touches, are repeated in different interpretations and doses both in the public space and in the rooms wing. This is how we created a living space that has an idea and meaning behind it – a harmonious, pleasant and prestigious living environment.

"From the first planning stages, the apartment owner asked me to create a warm home with good energy in which the kitchen would serve as an important and central hosting axis without sacrificing practice and elegance. Of course, we didn't give up on a large and inviting dining area around which to host family and friends, and at the same time we created a spacious living room with a luxurious and clean look that does not convey the feeling of a museum where nothing should move."

Indeed, the kitchen is one of the highlights of the apartment, designed by Ohayon as Parlali – a high cabinet unit facing a large island used for eating, cooking and preparation: "We created the facades from nano – a particularly durable material in a graphite gray shade, and for the wall cladding in the niche and the surfaces I chose porcelain granite from the excellent ossido series of the Italian brand LAMINAM in Nero, which is characterized by its timeless appearance and a finish reminiscent of metal and copper. The series comes in tight panels as well as surfaces, which allowed us the design flexibility to use it both as cladding and as a surface, thus creating an elegant and continuous look."

On the opposite side of the space is the powerful wall of power that dominates the entrance area, dining area and living room. Ohayon actually created a wooden carpentry unit, combined with dark mirrors and LED lighting, which he divided into 3 fields, thus creating a full adaptation to the function in the area.

"In the public space, we actually fulfilled the dream of the mother of the family, who aspired to host friends and extended family in the new apartment for Shabbat and holidays. She dreamed of cooking leisurely on a large work surface that is especially convenient for preparation with music playing in the background," explains the designer. "For this purpose, we combined a large dining area that includes an especially large dining table that can be conveniently opened and hosted around it by about 20 diners. For the table we matched chairs upholstered with pipette fabric, identical to the one in which we upholstered the armchair in the living room – another element that creates a system of material and colorful connections and connections between the various functions."

The living room is embracing, warm and pampering and contains seating for all family members: "I chose a large and luxurious lounging sofa for them, which we upholstered with dark velvet fabric that gives it an elegant and captivating look. It features a pair of handles of different heights, giving it an asymmetrical, modern and light look. Next to it we combined an elegant and comfortable armchair, lined with pipette fabric in shades of black and white. I also chose two camel leather upholstered armchairs for them, which add a wink of color to the space. In addition, I combined two round tables made of dark hardwood that break the straight geometry that characterizes the space."

The clear design concept continues in the bedroom wing: the new master bedroom was also expanded at the expense of the cancelled sixth room. Between the bedroom and the bathroom, Ohayon created a partition using an elegant extra-clear glass partition, thanks to which the dimensions of the room were increased even more. "I chose to assimilate the design style in the public space in the bedrooms as well in order to create a logical sequence and a system of connections. In the end, it's one house. For example, the camel skin we met in the living room we meet here in the image of the bed. In the bathroom, I used concrete-like porcelain granite tiles, very similar to the ones with which we floored the hospitality wing. The carpentry is dark similar to those in the public wing and the curtains are also the same. In order to create a warm look, I covered the floor of the rooms with laminated parquet and used butcher wood in the bathroom cabinet."
