The place of the democratic space is not in the street, not in the High Court of Justice and not in the media that darkened the world of Israeli citizens • Now, after the unprecedented roadblocks, the coalition and the opposition must turn over a new leaf • The discourse must fill a month and a half of hiatus, among other things in order to restore the cultural conversation to our places

Despite the orchestrated black gates, one can only marvel at Prime Minister Netanyahu's tremendous resilience. In voting to pass the repeal of the reasonableness clause, he blocked an attempted coup.

If the government had surrendered to the threats of Nadav Argaman or the gunman from Hatzerim, or rattled in the face of the fascist sadism of Ehud Barak and Dan Halutz, democracy would have gone and there is no longer a government in Israel. So this is first of all to the credit of one of the last vestiges of Israel's deterrent power. Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Knesset approved the cancellation of the reasonableness grounds

He should also be greatly appreciated for his resilience and insistence on prosecuting and dismantling the charges against him, which seem, as former police commissioner Alsheikh betrayed, to be a dark conspiracy to topple the prime minister. No wonder in the midst of the parliamentary reasonableness campaign, the heart weakened a little.

Common interest

But now that the most unprecedented blockades in the history of parliaments in the West have been cleared and "tarnished," and the stage of "hagetze" on behalf of the redhead party that has never run for election has arrived, the coalition and opposition need to turn over a new leaf.

It's a common interest. To return power and public discourse to the cultural democratic space, whose place is in the Knesset. In the Knesset and not on the street. In the Knesset, not in the High Court of Justice. In the Knesset, not in the dark media, which has darkened the world of Israeli citizens.

Even on the issue of the composition of the Judicial Appointments Committee, the distance between Yariv Levin and his colleagues and Gantz-Lapid and their colleagues is not great – especially after the coalition is ready to make major concessions. There are all sorts of formulas that all benefit the opposition, but basically expel representatives of the Bar Association. Is there room to retain significant representation of Supreme Court justices? Maybe so. Anyway, when you say cow – it's better to kill this cow together.

Dialogue and compromise

It can already be said that one of the biggest losers of recent months, and especially in the past week, is none other than Israeli President Isaac Herzog. For all his impressive appearance before Congress, it finally turns out that President Biden used him as a stage prop.

Yesterday, the prime minister tried, among other things, to demonstrate that he is neither a stage prop nor a horse nor a lame duck, but fully fit despite the fatigue and age that were evident on his face. As a result of Herzog's failure, if there are talks between coalition and opposition, it will be in its proper place, in the Knesset. There is no longer a need for the patronage of the President's House, which seems to erode the status of the Knesset.

The dialogue between the parties in the Knesset should fill the month and a half of recess, among other things in order to restore the cultural conversation to our places. Not all reform supporters are aware that even among the most fanatical opponents of the reform, there are those who are willing to talk and make compromises.

The coalition, in practice, has already made a significant unilateral concession by dropping the override clause, though not officially. The prime minister repeated this at least three times, in Wall Street Journal interviews and podcasts with AI scientist Lex Friedman, as well as in other conversations.

The opposition, especially Benny Gantz, will try to regain the leadership of its camp and not leave the protesters' camps in the hands of irresponsible leaders. Removing inhibitions and intoxicating violence are symptoms that strong opposition leadership and law enforcement can suppress. As the holidays approach, optimism is sought.
