Hours after the election results were announced: Members of the Gabon army announced on Wednesday that they had "put an end to the bongo regime" in a statement on national television.
There were reports of gunshots being heard in the capital Libreville. "We are watching an irresponsible government leading the country into chaos," the military declared.

The Gabon government announced a nighttime curfew last Saturday. The military officials' statement comes just hours after Ali Bongo's election victory in what is set to be his third term.
