A senior White House official said Friday evening that there is a basic framework for a possible normalization agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel, Al-Arabiya reported.

According to the report, National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby told reporters during a phone call that "all sides have set — I think — a basic framework for what we can lead."

According to him, the United States is still cautious when it comes to talking to the public about what the framework of the agreement will look like and what is expected of each side. "But as with any complex agreement — as it will necessarily be — everybody's going to have to do something and everybody's going to have to make compromises on things," Kirby said.

The senior American official noted that an agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia would also benefit the national security interests of the United States and "everyone in the region."
