The battle for public space has reached a climax: the religious council in Tel Aviv-Yafo coordinated the cases in which there were disturbances during Yom Kippur for prayers held in the city. It now emerges that prayers were interrupted in 16 places (in six of those cases, prayers were stopped), while only two out of 512 synagogues in Tel Aviv were disrupted.

In another incident, a woman wearing a bathing suit entered the cantor's stand in Policeman's Square. It should be noted that in that place, prayer continued uninterrupted.

Not only in Dizengoff

Every year there is a growing interest on the part of the public to participate in hearing the sound of the shofar at the end of the fast, and in order to make this possible for everyone, many synagogues hold prayers in the public space for the convenience of the residents. The total number of participants in these prayers is tens of thousands.

As mentioned, last Yom Kippur there were a number of incidents in which prayers were interrupted, both for minyanim held in the public space with or without a partition, and for those within the synagogue compound itself. Most of the incidents occurred in the center and northern neighborhoods, including Ramat Aviv III, Neve Avivim, and Tel Baruch North, where, according to the religious council, one person caused 700 people to pray outside.

In Policeman's Square, two people disturbed 300 people when they entered the cantor's stand wearing a bathing suit. The peak of the demonstrators was not in Dizengoff Square but in Neve Avivim, where 120 demonstrators arrived, according to the religious council, shouting, there were women's dances, destroying equipment, not letting them start and shouting "Nazis and child murderers."

In Kikar HaMedina, Chabad prayers were also halted after 40 demonstrators shouted and used whistles.

The pogroms against Judaism took place not only in Dizengoff but in 18 minyanim in Tel Aviv, including prayers approved by the municipality.

The Chotam organization, which works to return Judaism to the center of the public agenda, tweeted on the social network X (formerly Twitter): "The pogroms against Judaism were not only in Dizengoff but in 18 minyanim in Tel Aviv, including prayers that received approval from the municipality. Among other things, there were chants of 'Nazis murdering children' and entering a cantor's post with a bathing suit. The disease of auto-anti-Semitism is not the province of a handful but growing, led by Ron Huldai, and must be treated at the national level."
