Last week, the Americans announced a visa waiver to the United States, which is expected to go into effect next month. The visa exemption will bring with it many possibilities for the Israeli tourist who wants to travel in the United States, but there are several other advantages that not many have considered.

Until now, those who planned to fly to Central America, to countries such as Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and other countries, had to pass through various destinations in Europe, pay more and make a longer detour in many cases, on the way to those desirable destinations.

Anyone who wanted to make the same connection in the US would have to obtain a valid visa, since it was also not possible to make a connection flight in the US on the way to another country, without a valid visa.

From next month, we will be able to visit the Caribbean, Mexico, Dominican Republic and many other destinations in the region, without the need for a visa, which will expand flight options to those destinations. The expansion of flight options increases competition between airlines, and in such cases there are usually price drops.

Flights from Miami to Cancun, for example, can cost only a few tens of dollars and in quite a few cases, flights with a connection may even be cheaper than a direct flight to the destination where the connection is made, so we may soon see comfortable options on flights to various destinations in Central America.

Two weeks ago, the transport minister announced that she would visit Mexico in order to promote direct flights to the destination. So far, the Transportation Ministry has not announced progress on direct flights to Mexico. Even when the agreement is announced, there is still a long way to go, since one of two airlines that can operate this route (El Al or Euro Mexico) must decide that it is a profitable route and that there is a feasibility of operating direct flights to Mexico.

At this stage, according to the plans published by El Al, Mexico's destinations are not in the plans for the near future.
