Israel at war: As part of the fighting in the communities near the Gaza Strip, Border Police fighters, including SWAT fighters and undercover units, fought against the terrorists and rescued many civilians under fire.

A heroic act under fire was also carried out by Georgi Goliak, a senior MDA paramedic who woke up yesterday morning and drove to a routine shift at the MDA station in Sderot. Just before he reached the station, he began to hear gunfire on the road he was traveling on, and casualties began to arrive, among them seriously and critically wounded. During the initial medical treatment for the wounded, massive gunfire was heard outside, and a team decided to lock the doors, shut themselves inside the station and continue medical treatment for the seriously wounded who remained at the station until they could be evacuated to hospitals in a bulletproof intensive care vehicle.

After a few hours, Georgi, who had commanded MDA teams at the Sderot police station throughout the day, and the other paramedics realized that terrorists had taken over the Sderot police station. In the evening, after joint IDF-MDA treatment sites were opened, the paramedics began evacuating the wounded from the police station under live fire, endangering their lives, and some of the wounded were transferred to hospitals by helicopter.

After the exchange of fire in the police station area subsided, MDA paramedics and staff continued to provide treatment and evacuate the wounded and murdered in Sderot.

Georgi Golyak recounted the shocking experience: "The terrorists passed literally a few meters from the station, driving in vans with submachine guns and firing in all directions, if they had turned left, we probably wouldn't be here today. At that moment, we understood the magnitude of the incident and that we were in field conditions and at this stage without reinforcement of additional teams. We fought for the lives of the wounded who were at our station and did everything possible to save their lives."
