It can now be said that 854 bodies of civilians arrived at one of the IDF bases in central Israel, 361 of which were identified, 264 were buried. So far, the IDF has notified 222 families of fallen IDF soldiers that their sons and daughters have fallen, 138 of whom have been buried, and the IDF hopes that the vast majority will be buried by the Sabbath.

Complex identification work

The task of identifying IDF fallen soldiers is less complex for the army, since on the day of enlistment in the chain of duty, each recruit is required to provide fingerprints of his ten fingers and dental photographs, and they are also equipped with discs and certificates. This allows for faster identification of them.

In practice, the number of IDF casualties identified is higher than 222, some of the families have already been notified and some of the informants will arrive in the near future. There are families in the IDF who came to them only to tell them that there is no report on space at the moment, but nevertheless it was important to contact them and inform them that the condition of their loved one is unknown.

As for civilians, there are now 854 sacks of bodies, but since some of the bodies are in terrible condition, it is possible that in one bag there are only body parts, and other parts of it in another bag. Since 361 bodies have been identified so far, there are about 500 bodies whose identification work has not yet been completed.

The difficulty is particularly great due to the lack of data in the biometric database, especially of children and the elderly.

The IDF assists the police in identifying the bodies of civilians, and has begun building databases of photos and fingerprints, as well as DNA and teeth. The military has yet to take samples from all 854 body bags, but the vast majority have been taken.

There is someone to turn to

The IDF established two operations rooms – one intelligence and one of the ACA, which deal with the world of abductees. So far, the IDF has notified 97 families whose loved ones are in Gaza, soldiers and civilians alike.

In addition to all this, there is another large group of missing and out of touch. The IDF notes that the military knocked on the families' doors, informing them that there was still no contact with the family member, and that he was not on the lists of dead or wounded.

At the same time, various units are still circulating in the envelope in an effort to locate the missing or their body parts, and it is very likely that there will still be difficult cases of people who cannot find their loved ones and their whereabouts will not be known.

At the beginning of the war, two hotlines were established for receiving information – 105 for civilians and 1111 for soldiers. Initially, there were about 4,700 calls a day, but now the number has dropped to 2,000.

The army requested that the notification to civilians be carried out similar to the notification to fallen IDF soldiers, and therefore teams were recruited that received short training so that it would be possible to reach the entire close family circle of the murdered person.
