The Hamas terrorist organization issued an official statement of thanks to Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. In a statement issued over the weekend, the organization expressed appreciation for "the position of the Russian president, who rejects the aggression and siege on Gaza and the harm to civilians." The statement added: "We welcome Russian efforts to stop the aggression."
Reminder: The day after the terrorist attack, Ali Baraka, head of Hamas' international relations abroad department, was interviewed by the Russian channel RT in Arabic, and said, among other things, that Russia had allowed Hamas to manufacture Kalashnikov bullets in Gaza.
"Moscow is pleased to see that the war with Gaza has distracted Washington from the war in Ukraine. Even Russia sympathizes with us and sent us messages on Saturday morning. There is sympathy. It's gratifying that the U.S. is getting entangled in the Palestinian issue because it reduces their pressure on the war in Ukraine."
The Russian president himself said on Friday — just a week after Hamas' barbaric attack — that Israel had the right to defend itself, but also compared the siege of Gaza to the Nazi siege of Leningrad during World War II.
