The president of the United States met on Wednesday with the families whose loved ones were murdered and kidnapped at the Kempinski Hotel in Tel Aviv, where representatives of the families told the president their personal stories.
Biden expressed support for the families of the abductees and missing persons and stressed that one of the goals of his visit to Israel was to meet the families in person. He announced that the United States fully supported Israel and was working for the release of the abductees, and that it would contribute its resources as necessary to carry out this goal.
"God loves you," Biden told one of the survivors of the Hamas attack. He also met a young woman who saved people in an inferno that took place on her kibbutz and hugged her after hearing her story.
Secretary of State Blinken said: "I've had the opportunity to meet so many Israelis over the last few days. I've heard the stories. I've heard about lives that have been lost and changed forever, it's hard to process the events." Later, Biden repeated the story of his meeting with Golda Meir and repeated his well-known statements that "if there were no Israel, we would have to invent one," and that "you don't have to be a Jew to be a Zionist." He added: "I think the world's security is anchored in Israel."
Representatives of the families thanked the president for his support and asked that he mobilize to exert pressure on the presidents of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey to create a humanitarian corridor and act to bring medicines to the abductees quickly, drugs without which they would be in real danger.
The families also asked for the help of the United States in exerting international pressure on Hamas to lead to the immediate release of all the abductees and missing persons.
