In the barrage of rockets Hamas fired at Israel on Thursday night, shrapnel fell in Rishon LeZion. Green Patrol inspectors went on a search patrol at the site of the fall, and near where the shrapnel fell on a road, they discovered an injured porcupine lying in a ditch a few meters from the area of the fall.

The inspectors immediately reported this to the Nature and Parks Authority, who sent veterinarian Dr. Tomer Nissimian to the scene, where he met Green Patrol inspector Oren Levy and Rishon LeZion's veterinary service inspector Alina Yakubov. Dr. Nissimian rescued the porcupine from the scene and transferred him to the clinic of the municipal veterinary service, where he was examined under anesthesia.

The examination revealed that the porcupine suffered a fracture in its right hind leg and cuts on its body. He received medical treatment that included painkillers, fluids, antibiotics and wound care, and today he was transferred to Safari Wildlife Hospital.

"Since the beginning of the war, we have been receiving many calls from civilians, members of the security forces and veterinary services who report to us injured wildlife," Nisimian said. "The public's awareness and prompt reporting is critical to our ability to reach the injured animals as quickly as possible and treat them promptly. I thank the Green Patrol and the veterinary service in Rishon LeZion, and hope for the porcupine's speedy recovery."
