The attack by Hamas terrorists on the surrounding communities led many people to the understanding that at the moment of truth, there would be no one to protect them, and caused them to take excessive extreme measures. An example of this is a 35-year-old resident of Hazor Haglilit who made Molotov cocktails for the moment of truth. A court extended his detention for two days, after which he was released.

Last week, the police received information about the suspect who stole and possessed ammunition while at the same time manufacturing Molotov cocktails at a shooting range in Ayelet Hashahar. The police raided his home, where they found the bottles ready to be activated. He was detained for interrogation, during which he claimed that he had prepared them to protect his family when the terrorists arrived. The next day he was brought to court, where the police asked for his detention to be extended.

His defense attorney, Zeev Nir, who represented him on behalf of the public defender's office, said at the hearing that the Molotov cocktails were intended for self-defense and there was no intention to use them against other blood. "This is a situation that the State of Israel has never been in, we are in a time of war, the entire public is in anxieties that I have never experienced or seen," Nir said, adding: "People have become anxious, I hear people booby-trapping their homes, each as he sees fit. I would like to point out that these Molotov cocktails were never intended to harm anyone, but were intended to protect the family. They were found at his mother's house, which he feared for her life, and there was nothing offensive about it or related to a criminal offense, even if it appears in her definition."
Judge Wadad Younes Ghanaim extended his detention for two days, noting that there was reasonable suspicion that the suspect had committed the offenses attributed to him. At the end of his detention, he was released.
