The Minister of Education convened a press conference to try to provide a response regarding the current state of the system. The education system has not really functioned since the beginning of the fighting. Education Minister Yoav Kisch said on Sunday about the period of fighting and the resulting disruptions in learning: "No one knows how to answer the question of how long it will take. Obviously, it's not days or two or three weeks." Regarding the issue of security, the director general of the ministry replied to concerned parents that the system would reinforce the institutions.

As in all recent days, Kish held a press conference in which he gave a picture of the situation regarding the education system in Israel. When asked about the scholastic gaps, he replied: "We need to address that. As the fighting continues, we will have to make sure that the response will be more educational."

The minister's remarks come against the backdrop of the fact that most of the meetings in schools and on Zoom deal with the emotional-mental issue and less with learning core subjects such as math, English, etc. It should be noted that classes were stopped in September with the Yom Kippur holiday and have not resumed since.

Kish acknowledged that the learning that is being done today in schools is not optimal. "We're looking for solutions. Even in green areas (where there are no restrictions), learning is not optimal."

The education minister even referred to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's tweet against the Shin Bet and Military Intelligence, a tweet that has since been deleted. "I don't think we should deal at all with sharing blame or investigating. We have to look at how to win the war."

Another issue that concerns quite a few parents is the issue of security in educational institutions, as is well known, parents are allowed to volunteer to reinforce security in educational institutions with their personal weapons. However, there are institutions where fewer than 100 students are enrolled, so they do not have a security budget.

The Director General of the Ministry of Education said: "We appealed to the Israel Police to increase security in educational institutions in mixed cities, in institutions with over a thousand students, and also in institutions with fewer than 100 students who are not budgeted. It's in the works."
