The Jerusalem Preparedness Squad project was launched Monday evening in the presence of Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon, Public Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai and Jerusalem Police Department Doron Turgeman. As of now, about ten on-call squads, numbering a total of about 100 volunteers, have been opened, but later on there are expected to be about 33 of them, numbering about 550 volunteers, who have undergone a process of absorption and specialized training that includes, among other things, shooting training. 10 on-call classes in the neighborhoods of Nof Zion, F. Ze'ev, City of David, the Jewish Quarter, French Hill, Talpiot, Har Homa, Ramat Shlomo, Ramot and Gilo have already completed their training and entered the neighborhoods.

Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon said at the ceremony: "We have so far trained about 200 members of an alert squad, and by the time the training is completed, there will be about 550 members of on-call squads in all neighborhoods. The city of Jerusalem is taking another step forward tonight and this is just the beginning."
"The war we are in is a cruel war in which the Nazi enemy tries in every way to harm the home front - as many civilians as possible - the elderly, women and children," Ben-Gvir said. "Our goal, as I assumed, is to have as many alert squads as possible, as many weapons as possible, as much trained and organized force as possible under the responsibility of the police, so that we can protect the civilian home front as much as possible. A weapon in the right hands saves lives! We saw this in the war – wherever there were weapons, the scale of the disaster was smaller, and that's how we have to continue – to establish more and more alert squads, armed and organized under police supervision."
