A university is often associated with assignments, and considerable financial expenses. However, in light of the fighting in the south and the Iron Sword War, the equation has been reversed. Tel Aviv University announced today (Monday) an immediate scholarship of NIS 1,000 for every student recruited to reserve duty under Order 8.

While the state is in no hurry to open its pocket and criticism of the Ministry of Finance is accumulating, the university notes that it is striving for a significant increase in the grant, especially for those serving in the combat or combat support system. It will also provide additional scholarships to students in reserve duty who are currently experiencing immediate and exceptional financial hardship.

As part of the emergency fund, the university also announced that students who live in dormitories and who were recruited under Order 8 will receive an exemption from payment for the months of October and November. In addition, it will provide hundreds of scholarships for rental assistance to residents of other dormitories who have not been drafted into the reserves. "Tel Aviv University is committed to helping its students who are experiencing the hardships of war firsthand. Naturally, these are first and foremost reserve soldiers as well as our students from the south or north who encountered economic and other difficulties as a result of the war," said University President Prof. Ariel Porat, adding: "We are starting with a modest scholarship, but aspire to increase it later. Our assistance is not only financial, but also academic, when the school year begins. We will not leave the soldiers and reservists, and the rest of our students who were injured in the war, behind."
