Yad Vashem Chairman Danny Danin on Tuesday attacked Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, for choosing to speak wearing a yellow star on his shirt.

"We were sorry to see the members of Israel's delegation to the UN wearing the yellow star. This act degrades both the victims of the Holocaust and the State of Israel. The yellow star symbolizes the helplessness of the Jewish people and being at the mercy of others. Today we have an independent state and a strong army. We are masters of our destiny. On the lapel today we will put a blue and white flag, not a yellow star," Dayan wrote on Twitter.

Shortly after midnight (Israel time), Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, spoke at the UN Security Council's emergency session on the war in Gaza and the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, which was convened at the request of the United Arab Emirates.
Erdan did so wearing a yellow star with the inscription "Never Again" and comparing the UN's silence on Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel on October 7 to that of countries around the world against the Nazis during World War II.
"When Jewish babies were burned in Auschwitz, the world was silent. Today, Jewish babies were burned in Bari and our communities – and the world is silent again. I will make you remember the shame of your silence every time you look at me: I will wear the yellow star until we eliminate Nazi Hamas and until the Security Council stops being silent and condemns the October 7 massacre. The State of Israel is strong, we will not stop until we crush Hamas and return the hostages."
