The Iron Sword War has placed farmers from all over the country, especially from the south and north, with serious concerns regarding their livelihood and the loss of the produce in which they invested throughout the year. Alongside the problem of a shortage of working hands, Israeli agriculture is also calling for preferring local produce over imports, thus helping during the crisis.

Two initiatives that were recently launched put farmers and boutique producers from the south and north at the forefront and enable all of us to purchase fresh produce from blue and white.

Ruti Brodo's Delicatessen hosts North-South Market

This Friday, November 2, the Delicatessen by the R3M Group of Veruti and Mati Brodo hosts a market with delicious and fresh produce from farmers and boutique producers from the south and north of the country. All revenue from market sales will go directly to farmers and producers, with no brokerage gaps.

"Throughout our years at R2M, we have been supporting local producers and buying blue and white: vegetables, fruits, flour, olive oil, honey and more," says restaurateur Ruthie Brodo. "As local producers who produce our own cheeses, breads and pastries, we identify with the difficulty that farmers and producers are currently experiencing in the north of the country and the envelope. Therefore, this Friday, we will join hands with the producers and farmers who guard our borders and sell their produce in the market, which aims to strengthen and support them."

Tamam Farm embarked on a project for farmers near the Gaza Strip

Thousands of people are currently crowding the "Envelope Market" at Expo Tel Aviv - the project of the Tamam Farm from Moshav Geva Carmel for farmers near the Gaza Strip. The project was launched in the shadow of the war by Sharon Tamam, the owner of the farm and the third generation in a family of farmers. The initiative was also joined by actress Maya Dagan.

As part of the project, the Tamam Farm team purchases and collects fresh seasonal produce of fruits and vegetables from farmers in the south and brings it for sale at fair prices at the Expo and Exhibition Center in Tel Aviv. In light of the great demand, the market expanded to other cities, including Tivon, Haifa, Caesarea and Hof HaCarmel.

"It is important for us to strengthen the farmers in the south during this difficult time," Tamam says. "We will do everything possible to facilitate and assist them. We invite the public to show unity and solidarity, and instead of purchasing fruits and vegetables imported from Turkey in the supermarket chains, come and support blue-and-white agriculture and enjoy quality produce."
