Graffiti of swastikas and Free Palestine were spray-painted earlier this week at two restaurants in Montauk, Long Island, New York, in the United States against the backdrop of an iron sword war. Graffiti was spray-painted on doors, fences, tables, signs and food trucks at Naturally Good and Pizza and Pastabilities.

"In the current situation in the world, it is alarming that a person or group of people is behaving in this manner," East Hampton Police Chief Chris Anderson told Newsday in response to the antisemitic vandalism. "They also spray-painted the slogan 'Death to the Jews,'" he added.

"The act of vandalism was first reported to the police before sunrise (on Monday of this week)," East Hampton Star commentator Michael Sarlow, an East Hampton police commentator, told the East Hampton website. He added: "Investigators investigating the incident believe the act took place sometime on Sunday night. At this time, we cannot provide further details on steps taken."

Peter Van Secujk, City Superintendent in East Hampton, expressed shock at the incident, calling it "vicious and with repulsive signs of hatred that have no place in Montauk's caring, inclusive, and close community." He added: "Civilized civil society demands that we treat each other with respect and tolerance, especially now that tensions are rising due to conflicts in other parts of the world."

The recent events in Montauk join a series of anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish institutions since the beginning of the Iron Sword War, triggered by the murderous Hamas attack on October 7. Among them, we reported here in Israel Hayom that the popular kosher deli on New York's Upper East Side – 2nd Avenue Deli – was spray-painted with swastikas in an antisemitic incident two weeks ago. Other Nazi and anti-Semitic expressions and symbols were spray-painted up the street.

"Since the war began, there has been a sharp rise in hate crimes in New York. More than 60% of them were directed against the Jewish population," New York Detective Corps Chief Joseph Kenney confirmed in a statement last week.
