Russia's ambassador to the United Nations General Assembly, Vassily Nebenzia, declared on Thursday that Israel has no right to self-defense in its fight against the Hamas terrorist organization because it is an "occupying state."
"Israel, as an occupying power, does not have the right of self-defense in its confrontation with Hamas, as stated in a memorandum by the International Court of Justice in 2004," the ambassador said during a special session of the UN General Assembly on the fighting in Gaza.

Nebenzia went on to argue that Israel has the right to ensure its security, but this right is not the same as self-defense." Israel's security can only be guaranteed if there is a fair solution to the Palestinian problem based on a recognized ICC outline. Russia condemned the massacres carried out by Hamas in southern Israel only two weeks after they took place and expressed its opposition to Israeli military action against the Hamas terrorist organization. Even worse, Moscow received a delegation of senior Hamas figures on its territory expressing support for the terrorist organization.
Tens of thousands of civilians are estimated to have been killed since Russia invaded Ukraine during the winter of last year.
