Angela Ascher is a true Dorfener.

Dorfen – The 45-year-old actress has not only become known for various television roles, she also had legendary appearances at the Nockherberg-Singspiel, when she appeared as a double of Christine Haderthauer and Ilse Aigner, among others. With the "Women's Stories" she even had her own sketch series on Bavarian television. Now she is venturing onto the stage with her cabaret solo program "Damn, I Love Me" and will make a guest appearance in her hometown on Saturday, November 18, in the Jakobmayer Hall.

Ms. Ascher, now you dare to do something.

However (laughs). I already had the idea of the solo program during my Nockherberg days and was always encouraged to do so by colleagues such as Stephan Zinner, Luise Kinseher and Thomas Lienenlüke. But I've always had a lot of respect for a comedy solo program. For me, this is the premier class. It's like learning a new trade.

How long have you been working on the program?

Since Easter. I actually wanted to tackle it earlier, but then Corona got in the way. And I ended up underestimating how much work it is.

And the first version was already the final version?

No, because I've always come up with new things – and I'm still thinking of them now. Something is always being exchanged.

How is the tour going so far?

There have only been four performances so far, but they have gone very well. Actually, I didn't want to play in Dorfen until later, because of course I have a lot of respect for performing in my hometown. But that's just the way it is now, and I have to admit that I'm very excited.

My Area

How much Dorfen is in your program? Will some of the people of Dorfen find themselves again, or will they even be mentioned by name?

Of course, there is a lot of Dorfen in the program. I won't mention specific names, or I've changed them, but I'm sure some of you will wonder if they're meant. The first part is very much about Dorfen, there is a lot of autobiographical stuff in it. A big topic in general is the Bavarian woman – and Dorfen has had a great influence on me.

Especially the parents, right?

Exactly. That's why my parents aren't allowed to sit in the front row at my performance at the Jakobmayer – and certainly not my dad (laughs).

And your children?

They appear in the program, but they do not appear in the performance. It's enough for my parents and friends to be there (laughs).

Do you actually talk to the audience during the performance?

Yes, there is a lot of interaction. And that's the big difference to shooting for TV or being on the Nockherberg stage. At first I was afraid of it, but now I enjoy it a lot.

How did you prepare for your solo program?

The best practice is the so-called open mic evenings, i.e. performances on small stages, or in small clubs, i.e. what my Dorfen colleague Michael Mittermeier is now putting on at the Gasteig in Munich. That's where you learn from the bottom up, and that's where you learn that there's only one currency in this business: the laughter of the audience. The goal is therefore to make people laugh from start to finish.

Do you slip into different roles, as you usually do on stage?

I do imitate people from time to time, but it's really me. I go into the image of women and say: Mia samma scho strong women in Bavaria, and we have learned to assert ourselves. I'll show you how to fight your way through life as a Bavarian power woman.

Are you also political?

No, because I do comedy and not political cabaret. Of course, there are swipes, but I want people to laugh. This is very important in this day and age. There are so many tensions in society at the moment. Everyone against everyone – it's terrible.

To put it provocatively: Do you need a certain basic knowledge to understand your program?

Of course, jokes ignite differently, in the countryside differently than in the city. For example, one should have minimal basic Catholic knowledge in order to understand certain punch lines. Young people in the city just don't have them anymore.

And then there's the Preiß'n ...

That's not a problem, they understand almost everything, because I always adapt a little bit with the dialect. But Bavarian is my mother tongue.

How long do you want to go on tour?

The plan is to take three years. Now first Upper and Lower Bavaria, then Franconia, the Palatinate and Austria. I'm still at the very beginning.

And almost incidentally, there is also filming.

Yes, exactly. I can currently be seen in the six-part BR series "Himmel, Herrgott, Sakrament" by Franz Xaver Bogner. In the sixth part, which will be broadcast on Friday, I play a bride who doesn't dare – but then she does.

Almost like the actress Angela Ascher, who, after a long period of hesitation, now dares to bring a comedy solo program to the stage.

Exactly. Something like that (laughs).
