Early Christmas present for the educational district of Dachau! He is given a professional academy for social pedagogy (FAKS).
Dachau – For the coming school year 2024/2025, the Bavarian Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, in agreement with the Bavarian Ministry of Finance, granted permission to expand the Dachau State Vocational School Center to include a technical academy for social pedagogy.
Two years of school, one year of internship
At FAKS, students receive a three-year apprenticeship. They attend school for two years, after which they complete a one-year internship. So far, FAKS is only available in Starnberg, Freising and the state capital Munich.
In the future, childcare workers in particular will be able to undergo further training at the FAKS to become state-approved educators. "This is a great benefit for the municipalities and kindergarten providers throughout the district, who operate over 130 day-care centers and crèches and are urgently looking for specialist staff," the Dachau district office announces.
Already in the 2022/2023 school year, the vocational school for child care was launched at the Dachau State Vocational School with two fully occupied entrance classes. There will also be two full classes in the 2023/2024 school year. After two years, the first graduates will graduate as state-certified childcare workers in spring/summer 2024. They can now seamlessly start their further training to become educators at the Dachau site. Pedagogical specialists in particular are in high demand and can take on much more responsibility in their day-to-day work.
Great interest in the state-approved educator
In April, the school and district committee unanimously launched the project. "There is a great deal of interest in this training to become a state-approved educator," said Irene Nagel from the School Development Department at the District Office at the time. "After the unanimous resolution and intensive preliminary consultations as well as personal discussions between District Administrator Stefan Löwl and the former Minister of Education Michael Piazolo, the district applied to the Ministry of Education for the establishment of the Academy for Social Pedagogy," said District Office spokeswoman Sina Török. "Due to the high level of commitment of the district administration and the school family, and because of the great success of the vocational school for child care, the acceptance has now been made."
Like the Vocational School for Child Care, the Fachakademie will be an independent school, which will be connected to the Dachau State Vocational School Centre under the local school management in terms of school organisation and space and will be integrated into the local school family.
