Christmas is the celebration of love and this should also be the case for people who have no one left. This is how it works in Gröbenzell.

Gröbenzell – In Gröbenzell, the food suppliers from the social services ensure that a feast is served. And during the holidays, there is also an extra dose of humanity.

Marc Wolf and Georg Müller are a pretty good team, not only at Christmas. The 35-year-old and the 78-year-old get along great, and they are up for any fun. If they work together on Christmas Eve, it can happen that they put on Santa hats when they set off on their route through Gröbenzell. Because it's not just food that's delivered here. "We want to be a delivery service with a heart," says Wolf.

That's fine

And because he has a big heart himself, he has given up his Christmas vacation this year to allow his friend, Georg Müller, to be with his grandchildren. "I didn't want to leave anyway, I don't have any children of my own, so it's fine."

Now Wolf is alone on the holidays this year for Meals on Wheels, an offer of the Gröbenzell ecumenical social service. The team consists of 13 people, some of whom are volunteers. Wolf is a permanent employee. That's how it turned out. Actually, he wanted to become a craftsman, but dropped out of the apprenticeship. By chance, he came to the social service. He has been with us for ten years, part-time, 25 hours a week, and he loves this job.

The 100-year-old and the lawn

"I've met so many impressive people," says the 35-year-old. Women and men who were over 100 years old and still lived completely self-determined in their own four walls. One of them even mowed the lawn himself. Of course, support is needed to make this possible: in the household and in food preparation. And Marc Wolf is proud to be able to play his part. To enable people to live in their own four walls until the end. For him, it is completely natural that he sometimes lugs a crate of drinks, wrings out towels after water damage or quickly repairs the patio door, after all, he has the manual skills.

Banquet

He actually does all these things all year round, as he says. But at Christmas it's even more special. Not only because a feast is brought out of the warming boxes: the menu includes duck with dumplings and red cabbage and beef slices with noodles. "And I try to maybe take a little more time on those days, because there aren't that many customers either."

Highlight of the day

Wolf knows what his presence means, especially to lonely people. "For many, my visit is the highlight of the day." What kind of person could just slap down the food and run away again? As time permits, he tries to provide a little food for the soul in addition to the warm meal for the belly. A conversation, a little joking. When he is on the road with his friend Georg Müller, there may be something really going on. Then there is also something for the ears: "We have already sung one or the other song at Christmas." In other words, a delivery service with heart – and rhythm.
