After several days of negotiations, the United States and the United Arab Emirates reached an agreed version of a draft UN Security Council resolution on increasing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. This was after parts of the text relating to abductees in Gaza were changed.

The new version of the draft changed two paragraphs opposed by Israel and the United States. The first paragraph included a call for an immediate suspension of hostilities in Gaza. This sentence does not appear in the new version. In addition, a paragraph was removed from the draft calling for the establishment of a UN monitoring mechanism that would be responsible for all the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza without Israeli supervision.

In addition, under pressure from the United States, a paragraph was added to the draft resolution calling for the release and return of the Israeli abductees held captive by Hamas. A vote on the resolution is expected to take place on Friday afternoon local time.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said tonight that the text agreed upon is one that the United States can support." However, she declined to say whether the United States would vote in favor or abstain. She said the wording of the resolution had not been softened and claimed it was a strong decision that would help increase humanitarian aid to Gaza.
