The Knesset's Subcommittee on Foreign Policy and Public Relations convened today (Wednesday) for a first-of-its-kind discussion on UNRWA's role in the strengthening of Hamas, and on the agency's contribution to incitement in the Palestinian education system against Israel. Oddly, those who will not attend the discussion are representatives of the Foreign Ministry.

The discussion was initiated by Committee Chairman MK Zeev Elkin (New Hope). His ministry sent the invitation yesterday to all bodies involved in the field, including a number of government ministries. Representatives of all the bodies came to the discussion, except for the Foreign Ministry, which plays a central role in the relationship with the problematic agency.
The purpose of the discussion is to examine Israel's policy towards UNRWA in light of the findings and in light of the agency's problematic history. The first part of the meeting will be open, and the second part will be confidential, so that the defense establishment can freely deploy its position.
