The year 2023 ends in Bavaria with weather warnings from the DWD. Some are valid until New Year's Eve, while others are valid until New Year's morning.
Update from 31 December, 13:46 p.m.: New warnings for gale force winds (see previous update) have now been added. In the west and north of the Free State, the DWD warns of gusts of wind. The following districts are affected:

- District and City of Schweinfurt

Previously, there was a warning for wind gusts in the districts of Weilheim-Schongau, Lindau on Lake Constance and the city of Kempten. The warnings are valid for different lengths of time. For the most part, they are scheduled to expire at 17 p.m. on New Year's Eve, but in some districts, such as Rhön-Grabfeld and Miltenberg, they are valid until 10 a.m. on New Year's morning.
Two-part weather forecast for New Year's Eve in Bavaria
North of the Danube, many clouds and isolated showers are expected on Monday, as the DWD announced on Sunday. In the south, on the other hand, it looks friendlier: Lots of sun and mostly dry weather are predicted. Temperatures range from four to ten degrees. Above 800 meters it can snow.

Update from December 31, 10:06 a.m.: The weather situation seems to be easing in large parts of Bavaria. Fog, frost and slippery warnings are now a thing of the past. However, the warning for gale force winds is still in effect in the south of the Free State, the affected districts are colored orange on the warning map.

Update from 31 December, 9.05 a.m.: The DWD has now adjusted its warnings. For example, the warning for gale force winds, which previously applied to the three districts of Oberallgäu, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Berchtesgadener Land, has been extended. Now the districts of Ostallgäu, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Miesbach, Traunstein as well as the district and city of Rosenheim are also affected. The frost and slippery warning, on the other hand, has expired. Now a fog warning is in effect until 10 a.m. in parts of Bavaria, for example in the districts of Roth, Passau and Tirschenreuth.
Frost, slippery roads and fog on New Year's Eve morning in Bavaria – DWD warns of gale force winds
First reported on 31 December, 8 a.m.: Munich – 2023 saw violent storms, heat waves, floods and snow chaos – a truly record year. At the end of the year, the German Weather Service (DWD) has issued several warnings. In the south of Bavaria there is an official warning for gale force winds.
Official weather warning for gale force winds in Bavaria: These districts are affected
- Oberallgäu district: Sunday (31 December), 4 a.m. to 20 p.m.
- Garmisch-Partenkirchen district: Sunday (31 December), 4 a.m. to 20 p.m.
- Berchtesgadener Land district: Sunday (31 December), 8 a.m. to 22 p.m.
The DWD says: "Above 2000 m, storm gusts with speeds between 60 km/h and 80 km/h occur initially from the south, later from the west. In exposed locations, severe gale force winds of up to 90 km/h must be expected."
Frost, slippery roads and fog: The weather in Bavaria on New Year's Eve morning
In the morning, a warning for frost is in effect in many districts of Bavaria. This affects Munich and Rosenheim, among others. There are also warnings of fog and frost, for example in Passau and rain.

Sun, rain, snow: Weather mix on New Year's Eve in Bavaria
The DWD summarizes this in its forecast for New Year's Eve as follows: "Until the morning frost in the south, locally slippery. Local fog. Today at first some sun, later rain from the northwest, snow in the mountains." In the morning, some sunshine is possible in southern Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate away from fog. In the course of the day, first in Franconia, in the evening also rain will come. Temperatures range from 4 to 11 degrees, with the highest values near the Alps.
"On New Year's Eve, rain moving to the southeast. Subsequent clearing up, but still isolated showers. Local fog. Snow line at 700 to 1000 m. Minima 6 to 0 degrees. In the mountains, it was slippery in places," the DWD concluded. (came)
In Franconia, it will also be mild on New Year's Eve, followed by wet and stormy. This could be followed by a winter comeback. The weather in Frankfurt, on the other hand, doesn't really play along on New Year's Eve. At the beginning of the year, the DWD warns of a continuous rain situation in Hesse.
