On Sunday, the conservative American newspaper The Wall Street Journal published a comprehensive investigation into the atrocities committed by Hamas terrorists in the October 7 massacre, describing Israel's effort to gather criminal evidence for the prosecution of the terrorists and their perpetrators.
According to the investigation, the collection of criminal information encountered various difficulties, including a lack of collection of criminal evidence after the massacre, due to the fighting that took place in the hours and days following the incident. The newspaper described the effort to bring the perpetrators to trial as "the largest legal effort in Israel since the Eichmann trial."
"The State of Israel has never faced crimes and criminal investigations of this scale before. This will be one of the most important trials ever to take place in Israel," said Roy Scheindorf, a former deputy attorney general.
It added that the Israel Police was actively collecting evidence such as testimonies of captured terrorists, documentation from security cameras and vehicles around the Gaza envelope and cameras carried by the terrorists, as well as classified materials seized in the Gaza Strip.
The newspaper claimed that another goal of the intensive investigation is to document the events historically, in order to prevent future denial and distortion of the facts, as well as an opportunity for the victims to expose to the world what was done to them.
