Three senior US defense officials told Reuters on Tuesday evening that the drone strike that killed senior Hamas figure Salah al-Arouri was an Israeli operation.
Al-Jazeera reports from Hamas that Salah Arouri was killed along with two commanders in the military wing in Beirut. Some media also reported the assassination of Osama Hamdan, a Hamas delegate in Beirut.
Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah responded to the assassination, saying his organization's response would be "very strong." Earlier, the Hezbollah-affiliated Al Mayadeen news network reported that Nasrallah had cancelled his speech scheduled for tomorrow. Nasrallah threatened in August that assassinations on Lebanese soil would be met with a "harsh response."
