In addition to his tennis successes, the "Bachelor in Finance" in particular stands out in his CV.

Interesting facts about Dominik Koepfer's life motto: "From college player to tennis pro".

Munich – Dominik Koepfer, born on April 29, 1994 in Furtwangen, is one of the most consistent tennis players in Germany: he has been among the top 100 in the ATP world rankings since September 9, 2019, and since then he has been gradually approaching the top 50 at.

It was not clear from the start whether Koepfer would become a tennis pro at all, since tennis was “just” a hobby for him for a long time.

The final decision was not to be made until he was a college student in America.

There he was then inoculated with the motto typical of American colleges: "Bigger, better, bolder".

"Bigger, better, braver" has since been evident in Dominik Koepfer's aggressive and clearly structured style of play.

Dominik Koepfer – his career

According to the ATP world rankings, Dominik Koepfer is Germany's third-best player behind Alexander Zverev and Jan-Lennard Struff (as of April 27, 2022; note).

This development was not foreseeable at the beginning of his career, because Dominik Koepfer did not come directly to professional tennis and for a long time tennis was no more than a hobby: the Baden native first took the detour via college studies in the USA.

Only after a delay did he start.

“When I was still in Germany, I only played tennis twice a week until I was 15.

I also rarely played in German youth championships and certainly not in ITF youth tournaments," he once recalled in an interview with the German Tennis Association (DTB) website.

The graduate of the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium in Furtwangen also played golf and went skiing in winter.

Although his parents Thomas and Marianne also play tennis themselves, he felt no pressure from home to pursue a career as a tennis pro.

This was also the reason why Koepfer was hardly promoted by the DTB.

"Personally, I've never really been the center of attention before because I haven't played that much myself.

Most other guys train every day when they are young, but I did a lot of other things then.

I made it to the final at my first German championships, played European championships in Moscow, but otherwise I was just a long way from being promoted.”

Dominik Koepfer – his education in America

After graduating from high school, he moved to Tulane University in New Orleans.

"The move to the USA was the best option for me to study and at the same time improve my tennis.

You train six to seven times a week, about three to four hours a day, which above all makes you physically fit.” The right decision for him: “The best thing about being a student athlete is that you study, do sports and have fun and you can reconcile the financial aspects - and at the highest level.

You have a young team right from the start, lots of friends around you and a sense of togetherness that is unique.

During this time I found friends for life, because you really go through thick and thin for four years.” After four years of study, winning the National Indoors (2015),
