The Frankfurt women have been waiting for a Champions League participation since 2016. It stays that way, because Eintracht was unlucky at first in qualifying – and then lost through a feat by the opponents.

Eintracht Frankfurt failed to qualify for the group stage of the Women's Champions League.

In the final of the mini-tournament in Hjørring, Denmark, the Frankfurt team lost 1:2 (0:1) against Ajax Amsterdam.

In the event of a win, coach Niko Arnautis' team would have advanced to the second and final qualifying round.

The winning goal for Ajax was scored by Victoria Pelova with an overhead kick in added time (90+2 minutes), the Frankfurt team had previously equalized through Lara Prasnikar (57').

Chasity Grant scored the first goal for Amsterdam (8th).

The goal for the early 0-1 deficit came after a failed goal kick from Eintracht goalkeeper Clara Bösl.

On the other hand, pressure on Ajax keeper Lize Kop equalized after Laura Freigang had already hit the crossbar with a free kick.

In the final phase it was bitter for Eintracht.

First Barbara Dunst took aim from outside the penalty area, but only hit the post.

From there the ball rebounded to Kop and back to the post (81st).

Then Ajax got a corner in stoppage time - and Pelova completed a spectacular overhead kick.

Wolfsburg sure, Bayern still have to play playoffs

Frankfurt's waiting for the first participation in the premier class since 2016, then under the old name 1. FFC Frankfurt, continues.

Frankfurt has already won the Champions League and the previous competition Uefa Women's Cup four times (2002, 2006, 2008, 2015).

Germany are represented this season by German champions VfL Wolfsburg, with Bayern Munich possibly joining if they qualify via the play-offs, which start in mid-September.

The group stage starts on October 19th.
