Drama occurred today (Thursday) during the 470 Sailing World Championship in Sdot Yam, when a plane flew low over the boats and interfered with the competition and the broadcast.
The incident took place towards the end of the second cruise, when a small plane made several laps around the competitors and descended very low, which stressed the people of the event, who shouted in connection to remove it from the place, but it continued on its way and after a few minutes left.
That was not enough, following his appearance on the scene, the broadcast drones operated by Olympic champion Gal Friedman, among others, had to withdraw from the scene, so that, God forbid, they would not damage him and cause a disaster.
One of the world's most senior reporters in sailing, Andy Rice, who is covering this time for the World Union, also said: "It was simply dangerous."
One of the organizers said that at any major sports event at sea, a permit is given if they want to fly over the competition, while at the Olympic Games there are also helicopters that broadcast the competition and accompany the boats, but at the championship this time the airspace was not closed.
In the meantime, the Israeli teams are moving away from the medal race on Saturday.
Gil Cohen and Noam Maari, ranked 18th overall, 15 points away from the top ten, when they finished the day's cruises in 25th and 7th places.
Nitai Hason and Noa Lasri, finished the first cruise in 23rd place and were disqualified in the second after touching the judging boat and are in 23rd place overall.
Those who continue to lead the championship and seem to be on the sure path to gold, are the German duo Louisa Wenzer and Flip Ottenreit, with only 38 negative points, after finishing the day's trips in 15th and 2nd place.
