Zero goals, no points: that is TSV 1860's record from the past two games.

The good start to the season should not be wasted against Freiburg II.

Munich

– “Stormy in the final sprint” was the headline in our newspaper a week ago.

There was great optimism at 1860 that the last games of the year would be victorious with the offensive band finally full again.

Goalscorer Marcel Bär had just made his comeback, and captain Stefan Lex was also involved in training again.

For the first time since the start of the season, Michael Köllner had all four attackers available again.

What should go wrong, starting with the home game against Saarbrücken?

TSV 1860: The offensive falters, despite the best cast

Pretty much everything was the answer that caused similarly disappointed faces on Sunday as eight days earlier with the same result in Bayreuth (0:1).

Vice-captain Phillipp Steinhart quarreled: "At times we played Saarbrücken against the wall, but simply didn't score and didn't defend consistently in a scene at the back." A classic in football: If you don't put things in the front, you catch one at the back.

A headed goal by the otherwise pale Marvin Cuni was enough for FCS to take three points from Giesing - "three lucky points", as ex-lion Richard Neudecker emphasized with an empathetic look at his "boys" in the team.

It's strange: The lions score an average of two goals per game, making the third most effective offensive after Elversberg and Wehen.

But then: Bear back, Lex back.

And for the second time in a row, 1860 remained goalless.

It wasn't just Steinhart who didn't understand the world anymore.

"I'm so pissed off," said the left-back, while Lex explained: "We were better throughout the game.

The 0:1 of course plays into the hands of the opponent.

It's bitter that we end up empty-handed."

Bitter also given that the lions had twice the chance to break away in the table and stay close to the high-flyers from Elversberg.

Unlike in Bayreuth, the basics were right on Sunday.

Nevertheless, it cannot be overlooked that things are no longer running smoothly – and have not been for a long time.

The lions got a proud 19 points from the first seven games, including a starting record.

Most recently, on the other hand: In the eight games since Elversberg (1: 4) just 10 points got stuck - far too little for the claims of the lions, who seemed to be on the right track to go into the World Cup break with a full cushion of points .

It was Köllner's concern on Monday to classify the defeat.

He did that by pointing out the peculiarities of this league, in which, apart from Elversberg, everyone can obviously cause problems for everyone.

"Since the teams are not that far apart in terms of budget, teams from the bottom third always beat those from the top," he lectured: "It's an incredible challenge to get through it." coming out in May".

In "October, November or December," he noted, no one had risen.

"We lost twice and are still second," Köllner recalled.

He and his team want to get back on the road to success as early as Wednesday evening in Freiburg.

"I understand the frustration," he said to the always nervous environment: "Nobody wants to lose, we didn't celebrate a party yesterday either.

Now is the time to get up again.”
