(CNN Spanish) - After the protest on Tuesday of reggaeton performers such as Nicky Jam, Daddy Yankee and J Balvin for the lack of presence of the genre in the Latin Grammy nominations, the Academy spoke.

Through a statement, the Latin Recording Academy said the nominations resulted from a voting process, that they are open to listen to constructive criticism and invited representatives of the genre to get involved with the Academy and to participate in the processes of the same.

With the tag #sinreggaetonnohaylatingrammys, several artists of the genre expressed their disagreement in networks after the announcement of the nominations.

Daddy Yankee, who is nominated in the category of “Best urban fusion / interpretation” with his success “With Calm,” said on his Instagram account that: “Despite being nominated, I don't agree with the way they treated the Gender already a lot of my colleagues. “The Latin Recording Academy has been following a strict voting process for 20 years. The members of the Academy, through their votes, select the material they consider worthy of a nomination, ”the organization said Wednesday in the statement.

“The Academy has never influenced their decisions and has always adhered to and respected their selections, even when there are people who disagree with the results. Notwithstanding the foregoing, we are always open to listen to discontent and constructive criticism. We invite the leaders of the urban / reggaeton community to get involved with the Academy, participate in the process, and participate in debates that improve the Academy, ”they added.

Since 2004, Latin Grammy rewards reggaeton in their ceremony through the categories "Best urban fusion / interpretation", "Best urban music album" and "Best urban song".

“In its purest essence, The Latin Recording Academy belongs to its members, of all genres, and our doors are always open. Together we can find winning formulas. Let us all join together to resolve this situation in depth, ”the statement concludes.

This Tuesday, the Latin Grammy said that for this edition they received approximately 15,500 entries in 50 categories. The winners will be chosen through a vote that will begin on October 3 and will be revealed at a ceremony on November 14 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
