(CNN) - Two partners of Donald Trump's lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, connected with efforts in Ukraine to seek dirty information about Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden were arrested Wednesday on criminal charges for violating campaign financing laws, according to a spokesman of the Southern District of New York.
Igor Fruman and Lev Parnas were arrested at Dulles Airport outside Washington and are expected to appear in court in Virginia on Thursday.
The investigation was conducted by federal prosecutors in New York.
Parnas was a Giuliani collaborator in Ukraine, and introduced him to current and former officials since 2018, according to CNN reports.
The men gave hundreds of thousands of donations to a super PAC (Political Action Committee) ally of Trump, according to the Miami Herald.
The Wall Street Journal reported first on the arrests.
America First Action, the super PAC in question, told CNN in a statement that they have not used the donation made by men through the super PAC.
"America First Action put that contribution in a segregated bank account, it has not been used for any purpose and the funds will remain in this segregated account until these issues are resolved," America First Action spokeswoman Kelly Sadler said in a statement. . "We take our legal obligations seriously and scrupulously comply with the law and any suggestion is false."
