(CNN Spanish) - Argentine singer and songwriter Cacho Castaña died Tuesday at age 77 at a clinic in Buenos Aires, his personal physician told state agency Télam.
According to Dr. Alfredo Cahe, Castaña "had been sedated for two weeks and had a serious condition."
The singer-songwriter became popular with ballads, tangos and songs of the tropical genre.
According to Télam, his delicate state of health was due to his addiction to cigarettes.
Humberto Vicente Castagna was born on June 11, 1942 in Buenos Aires and among his best known songs are "Café La Humedad", "Garganta con arena", among others.
