Police stepped up law enforcement and prosecuted persons driving illegal scooters.

Ma On Shan Division staff mounted an operation against electric mobile tools at about 6.25 pm this (6th) night. A 26-year-old man named Huang was driving a suspected electric scooter at the cycling track on Xisha Road. . After preliminary investigations, the man was arrested for driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a valid driver's license, using third-party insurance without driving and using an approved protective helmet while driving.

The arrested man has been released on bail pending further investigation and must report to the police in January next year. The relevant electric scooters have been sent to a vehicle detention centre for further inspection.

Police remind members of the public that electric movable tools should not be used with common cars on the road, and not suitable for use on sidewalks or cycle tracks. Use of unregistered and licensed electric movable tools on roads, footpaths and cycle tracks may be a violation The Hong Kong Law, Chapter 374, the Road Traffic Ordinance and other related legislation, members of the public are not allowed to try the law by themselves. Police will continue to take action to ensure road safety.

The surnamed Huang, who drove the electric scooter, was sent to the hospital with a head injury and was confirmed dead on the afternoon of October 30.
