Twelve investigators of the Northern Chief of Staff have worked intensively for two months to fully decipher the murder and kidnapping of 17-year-old Adel Khatib in Shefar'am by 44-year-old Wisam Abu al-Hasna, who was indicted on Monday in Haifa District Court Murder under aggravated circumstances and kidnapping for murder and extortion.

Police investigators say Abu al-Hasna, a friend of Khatib, whom he knew from construction work, called him on the day of the murder and told him he wanted to show him something he had found. The indictment indicates that the two arranged to meet near the school in the Al-Aafiya neighborhood, from where they would go to the place where he allegedly found the thing, and give it to him. According to the indictment, shortly after 7pm, Khatib arrived at the "Lotto Yassin" store in the neighborhood, while Abu al-Hasna came out with a knife on it. They went to an isolated place in the neighborhood, where Abu al-Hasna surprised Khatib. The indictment alleged that Abu al-Hasna stabbed him 21 times in the back and added and cut him throughout, while Khatib tried to defend himself with his hands, and then buried him.

In addition, a ransom letter that reads "Adel among the living in a good place, bring 400,000 shekels", is "almost random" - according to police investigators - under the hood of a car of a friend of Khatib, whose manuscript found in high-level correspond to the reporter The hand of Abu al-Hasna. Also, as part of the investigation, evidence of his preparation was found before the murder. "We saw in the videos how he makes preparations, such as arriving at the makeshift grave with the taurus he used to cover the body."

Abandoned Shfaram the day after the murder

Initially, four suspects were arrested, but suspicions towards them widened as the investigation progressed. However, evidence base slowly began to be built against Abu al-Hasna, originally from Gaza, married and fathered to children, who entered Israel from Gaza for medical treatment and remained in Israel with a false identity under the name "Wissam Scran". He was identified by investigators on security cameras, and at the same time evidence emerged of Abu al-Hasna's departure from Shfaram, where he had been living for years, and severing ties with local residents the day after the murder. "We noticed his kind of 'going underground'," said Commander Yehuda Alhayani, deputy head of the Crime Division of the North Yarim, who was responsible for the investigation.

About a month after the murder, on January 5, Abu al-Hasna was captured at a construction site in Tamra, where he worked and now also lives. At first he denied everything, then admitted all, and two days after his arrest, on January 7, he had already returned the murder under heavy security. Investigators believe he planned the brutal kidnapping and murder about a fortnight, and that he intended to extort a ransom from Khatib's father, in the background of his family's constant pressure to send them money. The Northern Chief said that when asked why he murdered the boy if he intended to demand ransom, the investigator replied: "Do you have where to put him? Because I don't have that. "

"Only today was indicted and we have not yet received the investigative materials," said attorney Alaa Suleiman, who represents Abu al-Hasna on behalf of the public defense attorney, "after learning them will respond in court."
