The von Quadt family embarked on the adventure of redeveloping the ancient Maulhof in the center of Gelting. They will soon move in.

Gelting - There is electricity and water, the heating goes off, and soon the stove in the kitchen should also work. Then Simon and Tatijana von Quadt can finally move into their new home in the heart of Gelting with their two children. The family is already looking forward to this day. Because the builders actually wanted to move into the former Maulhof at the end of 2017.

In 2015 Simon and Tatijana von Quadt bought the centuries-old, dilapidated walls on Wolfratshauser Straße. In the meantime, the listed small estate property has been transformed into a piece of jewelry. The roof structure is new, the wooden facade as well, the windows have been replaced and the walls are plastered. "The shell has remained the same," says Simon von Quadt. The only thing you separated from was an old shed and a tree.

Inside, the owners have largely retained the floor plan of the former farmhouse. Nevertheless, nothing reminds of the past. There are two wall openings on the ground floor. The kitchen with its white high-gloss furniture fits in perfectly, as does the fireplace in the new living and dining room that was once the stable. The walls are white, the wooden floor and ceiling give the room a pleasant atmosphere. A massive beam from 1921 was preserved, but had to be removed for the restoration. Another bar even dates from 1869.

In the place of the Maulhof, however, there was an apartment building in earlier times. Already in 1591 a certain Balthasar Kloiber was mentioned in the history of the village. Around 250 years later, Martin Maul, who gave the Maulhof its name, bought the property next to the church. He built a farm.

Wherever possible, Simon and Tatijana von Quadt tried to preserve the old. "We sandblasted the doors," reports the 37-year-old. The ceiling lamp in the future guest room has also remained. However, the electrical black rotary switches had to be replaced. "But there is a retro version," he adds. The wooden windows are also new. Some have rungs, and those on the former stable side are red, as they used to be.

Simon von Quadt, who works as a software developer in Munich, is a trained electrician. This now benefits him during the renovation. "He did a lot of the interior work himself," says his wife (33), who works as a managing director for a non-profit organization in the childcare sector. There are ceiling spots and loudspeakers in the house, through which you can listen to music in every room. And lots of sockets. "You can never have enough of that," says the electrician.

The family of four will soon move from Niederpöcking to Gelting. For the time being, only the ground floor is available to the quartet. The stairs are still missing and the first and second floors are still under construction. "Two children's rooms, a bathroom and our bedroom are to be built upstairs," announced Simon von Quadt. An office may be created under the roof. "We have to see how we can use the room." It is four meters high, and it could get warm in summer.

In economic terms, the new home is truly not a model house, says the client. But that was clear to him from the start. Simon and Tatijana von Quadt wanted something individual and not a ready-made house. Would they dare to do it again? "Now I say no," says the family man with a view to the protection of historical monuments and all the work. "I'll probably say yes in a year," he adds proudly and smiles.
