When the fire department arrived, the flames had already spread across the facade to the roof structure, the police said. The first investigations at the time indicated that the fire had been started by a previously unknown person .

The fact that the fire had spread so quickly indicates that the fire was not started solely to cause damage to property. Officials cannot rule out a targeted attack on the lives of residents.

The case on Wednesday evening was the topic of the ZDF program "Aktenzeichen XY ... unresolved" . Video recordings showing the alleged perpetrator were also broadcast. "The stranger prepares for about ten minutes, then a huge fireball lights up the night and the house is on fire, " says the website of the program broadcast on Wednesday evening.

The video was also released by the police on Wednesday. They come from a surveillance camera. It shows how a man with a baseball cap and backpack goes behind the house - and comes back shortly afterwards. A bright glow can suddenly be seen behind the building.

ZDF program "File number XY ... unresolved": family in Regensburg had already been threatened

As "file number XY ... unknown" reports further, the family had been attacked in their home three years earlier and threatened massively. In March 2019, someone put a burning Molotov cocktail on the terrace.

On the website of the ZDF broadcast, you can read further that the alleged perpetrator should be around 1.65-1.75 meters tall and have a sporty figure. According to a witness, he may have been driving an older, darker VW Golf .

Witnesses who have noticed suspicious persons or vehicles on and around the fire site in Bgm.-Schober-Straße in Tegernheim on December 26, 2019 are asked to report. Any other reference to the previously unknown perpetrator or the circumstances of the crime is of great interest to the investigators. The fire caused property damage of around 300,000 euros. To clarify the case, a reward of 10,000 euros was suspended.

Regensburg case on ZDF program "File number XY ... unresolved": New information

As the police announced on Thursday, there are new clues to the case after the broadcast on "Case number XY ... unresolved". Around ten clues were received, said a police spokesman. It is currently not possible to say more precisely that it first has to be determined. But: "One of the tips is interesting," said the spokesman.

The current episode of "Case number XY ... unresolved" on ZDF was also about a case that happened in Munich. A man was brutally beaten.
