(CNN Spanish) - What is it to be a woman in this time and space? In recent days I did an experiment on my social network. I uploaded the following post: Being a woman on planet Earth is ... what was my surprise! Seconds had not passed and I began to observe how notifications constantly appeared of the reactions of many women who found in this space their way of communicating their feelings on International Women's Day (which, in the end, we are all).

Phrases like: a gift, unfair, power, life, tireless fight, discrimination, fight against the expectations of society, live in a land of continuous conquest, wonderful, challenging, exhausting. Live trying to achieve a balance between being and having. Difficult if you want to be a mother and a professional. A blessing. Earning half of what a man does doing double the work.

These are just some of the many reactions I had in that post. For women, life is a constant choose, sacrifice and demonstrate. In a society and work environment that still revolve around the needs and the way of understanding success from a masculine perspective, it is impossible for the woman to fulfill all the expectations of being “successful”, without getting lost on the road or sacrificing personal life , motherhood or your quality of life as a woman. We live in a society where we are constantly judged for not being enough ... "good mothers, wives, daughters and professionals."

In the 21st century, the issue of the wage gap between men and women is current, latent and urgent. Thousands of women lose their irreplaceable lives at the hands of their partners every day, only because of the belief developed by the macho society that perceives women as property. A false right to dispose of our bodies and destinies. I am not pessimistic, but realistic. We cannot change reality if we are not able to recognize it.

Certainly thanks to women like the ones we celebrated in March, branded as crazy, hysterical and transgressors, I and millions of women around the world (not all) today have the right to vote, education and free expression. Thanks to them, today we are inspired by female astronauts, engineers, heads of government, among many other professions that we have never been allowed to dream about. We are indebted to the women who have fought for you and me. Let's continue breaking the rules that today's society imposes so that future generations of women can look back and say thanks to the #generational equality of 2020, today I am not a gender. I am a being with equal opportunities and rights on this planet Earth.
